R Street History

The appeal R Street’s development efforts are found in the street’s history as a former railroad and industrial corridor. There are still many attractive brick buildings, landmarks, and street elements reflecting the once bustling industrial and warehouse activity that existed half a century ago. Redevelopment of R Street’s public realm will follow urban design and architectural guidelines meant to reflect the past while looking to the future.
